This spooky craft is the perfect thing to get you into the Halloween mood.
Do you ever lose your place when your reading or even lose your book mark? Isn’t it annoying when that happens? This fun activity is the perfect thing to help with that. Monster book marks are simple and so much fun to make.
These book marks are a fun way to help kids keep track of where they are, especially those just starting to learn how to read, and hold their place in their book so they don’t forget what page they were on. Older kids and even adults would enjoy this craft. It’s a unique way to make a book mark that you can decorate any way you would like.
The great thing about this craft is that you can turn the book marks into anything that you would like. You can use them for any holiday too, Christmas, New Years, Valentine’s Day, Thanksgiving, etc. Use the book marks as a birthday craft for a kid’s party or a gift to your child’s classmates. You can turn them into bunnies, your favorite Disney character, an angry bird, anything you can think of. The ideas are endless!
Okay, so now that we have all the ideas together, let’s get crafting.
What you’ll need:
- A square piece of paper (6×6 is what I used)
- Extra construction paper (any colors you would like)
- Scissors
- Glue
Once you have all your supplies you are ready to start!
The first thing you will want to do is fold the paper in half to make a triangle. Try and make sure that the corners touch, this way you will have the best book mark you can make. Next, we want to make a diamond shape. So, you will have the flat folded edge facing you and the point of the triangle pointed away form you. Then, you will take one end point of your triangle and fold it to the top point, then you will do the same fold to the other side as well. In the end you should get a diamond shape.
Once that is all done, you will unfold it back to the original triangle that you started with. I know you’re thinking, I just did all the folding for nothing, but I promise it will be worth it in the end.
Now, that you have your original triangle back, remember the flat folded side should still be facing you, you will take one of the top points and fold it back towards you. The point should meet the edge of the flat fold. Keep that fold like that. Here comes a little trickier part, are you ready? You will want to start with one side and start to make the diamond shape again, but you are going to tuck the end under the fold that you just made. Then, you will do the same thing to the other side. Once this is done, you should have a nice little pocket for your book page to slide in to.
Now you are ready to create your monster. Just remember try not to make him too many teeth or her may eat your page.
